Lucas McGregor had a hat trick for Centennial — his third in three games — as the Cougars tied Hill-Murray 4-4 on Tuesday night in a Gold Division boys' hockey quarterfinal at Ridder Arena in the Schwan's Cup.

Although the game will officially count as a tie, the Pioneers advanced in the tournament by winning a shootout 2-1 on Ben Helgeson's goal.

With less than three minutes to play in regulation Michael Fleischhacker scored his second goal of the game to give the Pioneers a 4-3 lead.

The Cougars ranked fifth in Class 2A in this week's coaches' poll, answered 50 seconds later on McGregor's third goal.

Brett Oberle and Charlie Strobel each had a goal and an assist for the Pioneers.

Hill-Murray will play second-ranked Minnetonka in the Gold Division semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ridder Arena.

Minneonka 5, Edina 2: The No. Skippers' defense held the top-ranked Hornets to 16 shots on goal, compared to Minnetonka's 34. The Skippers scored three unanswered goals in the second period, breaking open a 2-2 game. Matt Koethe led Minnetonka with two goals. Jack Bayless and Josh Luedtke each had a goal and an assist. Jett Jungels and Sammy Walker scored for Edina.

Cretin-Derham Hall 4, St. Louis Park 3: The Raiders and Orioles traded goals throughout the game before Michael Kramer scored the game-winner four minutes into the third period. Following the goal, netminder George Maquire shut down the Orioles' offense. Zach Brydges, Matthew Gleason and Liam Ryan also scored for the Raiders. McCabe Dvorak, Luke Mobley and Jonathan Sorenson scored for St. Louis Park.

St. Thomas Academy 3, Burnsville 0: Payton Matsui's hat trick led the Cadets, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A, over the Blaze. Atticus Kelly earned his first shutout of the season with 19 saves.

Girls' hockey

Maple Grove 4, Alexandria 2: Maia Martinez scored a shorthanded goal with just over three minutes left securing a win for the Crimson, the No. 9-ranked team in Class 2A, over the Cardinals, No. 4 in 1A. Mannon McMahon scored twice for Maple Grove. Kristin Trosvig led Alexandria with a goal and an assist.

Grand Rapids/Greenway 6, Breck 1: The unranked Lightning upset the Mustangs, ranked No. 5 in Class 1A. Lindsey Rajala had two goals for the Lightning. Kiya Danielson made 29 saves.

Roseville 4, Mounds View 1: Izzy Larson had two goals and an assist, leading the Raiders past the Mustangs. Maddison Lehto made 25 saves. Annika Brodt scored for Mounds View.
