(Kevin Duchschere) Meanwhile, Ramsey County still says it will pull together a new funding plan to keep Arden Hills in the running. (Rochelle Olson)

It's an election year for city government, at least for four seats for the school board. East African diaspora activist wins White House honor: Semhar Araia of Minneapolis was recognized Monday as a "Champion of Change" for her work supporting the efforts of women of the African diaspora. (Bryna Godar)

Longtime athlete and track coach Carter Holmes was slowed by a heart attack and stroke, but Holmes, 62, gets companionship and a walking partner in his 11-year-old neighbor, Charlotte DeVaughn, a sixth-grader at Anthony Middle School. Gail Rosenblum and Jim Gehrz tell their story in their "Duets" column.

Public safety: The Society of St. Vincent de Paul thrift store off Lake Street was burgled by thieves who cut a hole in the wall, carried out a 100-pound safe and snatched the security camera tape as well. (Paul Walsh) An outbreak of gunfire at dinnertime at 35th and Knox in north Minneapolis wounded two men and a woman.
