Tropical Downpours Associated with TS One

Tropical moisture has produced very heavy rainfall across portions of thecentral Philippines over the past few days. Observations from these areas havereported over 20 inches of rain, with an unofficial report of nearly 50 inchesof rain at Catanduanes.The main culprit for the heavy rain has been a slow moving area of lowpressure. This low is now the first Tropical Storm of the Western Pacific Basinthis year.

Tropical Storm One will continue to spin just east of the Philippinesthrough Monday before gradually accelerating to the north and northeast. Theunrelenting rains will continue to pound central areas of the Philippines,where an additional 20 inches of rainfall is likely through Monday.

Dangerous flooding and life-threatening mudslides will occur throughout thecentral Philippines through at least Monday.
