Tropical Cyclone in South Pacific

Tropical Cyclone 08P has brought torrential rainfall to parts of American Samoaand will continue to do so over the next 24 to 48 hours as it slowly moveseastward and then turns more southerly.Apia, the largest city in American Samoa, has received more than 9 inches ofrain over the past 3 days with more likely before the tropical cyclone movesaway.

The capital city of Pago Pago has received over 2 inches of rainfall so far,however the storm will pass very near the city during the next 24 hoursbringing the potential for damaging winds and flooding rainfall.

Tropical Cyclone 08P is likely to strengthen over the next several days as itturns more southerly and then southwesterly.

This storm has the potential to bring heavy rainfall to New Zealand orAustralia late next week depending on the exact track.
