Tropical Cyclone 01B

April 15, 2009 at 4:30PM

An area of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal has strengthened into TropicalCyclone 01B.While currently moving to the northwest, a track more toward the north andeventually northeast will occur later this week into the weekend. This trackwill allow 01B to parallel the northeastern coast of India and head towardMyanmar.

While a minimal tropical cyclone Wednesday, further strengthening isanticipated over the next few days. This is a result of warm water temperaturesand low wind shear.

Despite the center of the storm remaining over water through the end of theweek, there can be some outer rain bands that impact northeastern India,Bangladesh and western Myanmar over the next few days. These rain bands canproduce locally heavy rainfall resulting in some flooding. There can also besome strong, gusty winds accompanying the rain. Mariners in the northern Bay ofBengal will also contend with very rough seas.
