Today's trophy tales

Kayak catch: Nick Scott, 14, of Minneapolis, caught this 24-inch walleye, above, on Lake Mille Lacs on May 27. Fishing from his kayak about 30 yards from shore, Scott made the catch with a spinner bait.

A fine first northern

After a day of fishing with two siblings and two friends and catching many sunfish and crappies, 8-year-old Cosette Prehall tried for one more fish from the dock while her father loaded the boat. She thought she was caught in weeds and handed her father the rod. When he realized the "weeds" were fighting, he handed it back to her and she landed her first northern.

Big bass

Cordai Linnell-Shinder, of Lakeville, caught (and released) this 20-inch, 6-pound largemouth bass on Orchard Lake in Lakeville. Using a live minnow on a slip bobber, Linnell-Shinder made the catch in 4 feet of water.
