A Minnesota State trooper was unhurt, but his squad car was rumpled with a big dent Friday morning after it was hit by another motorist in I-35E in St. Paul.

The trooper had stopped on the right shoulder to help a motorist who had crashed in the southbound lanes of I-35E near Randolph Avenue and Ayd Mill Road.

Another driver hit the parked squad, which had its lights flashing, about 5:19 a.m. The trooper, who was outside the vehicle did not get hit. The driver who hit the squad suffered minor injuries, but did not go to the hospital, said Lt. Tiffani Nielson of the State Patrol.

Conditions were icy at the time due to a light snow that had fallen overnight and black ice that formed on freeways as temperature dropped to minus 10 degrees.

The patrol sent out this tweet Friday to remind drivers to slow down and to move over when they see flashing lights.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
