After recent a period of chilly, unsettled weather, the western UnitedStates will rapidly warm and dry out through the weekend as the jet streamretreats well to the north.The warming trend will begin in earnest Saturday. By Sunday, much of theWest will have temperatures nearly 10 degrees above normal.
Warm, dry winds coming down off the mountains and into the central valley ofCalifornia could send afternoon temperature readings to near record levels,with highs in the 90s in some locations.
