Travel company's e-mail list is swiped

Members could get unwanted e-mails from third parties.

TripAdvisor, an online travel company known for the advice its members post about their travel experiences, notified registered users this week that someone had hacked into the company's e-mail system.
CEO Steve Kaufer told members that a portion of the company's e-mail list was "stolen" over the weekend. He said employees had taken measures to remedy the problem, including notifying law enforcement of the breach.

Kaufer said the company does not collect member's credit card or financial information but suggested that some members may be getting unwanted e-mails from third parties.

"Unfortunately, this sort of data theft is becoming more common across many industries," Kaufer wrote.

Has your information ever been stolen from a company's database?
