As the afternoon rush hour kicks off, Metro Transit says one-quarter of its buses are running behind schedule. The average delay is 4 minutes. Light-rail trains and the Northstar trains are rolling on time, the agency said.

Maple Grove Transit put out this advisory for its riders:

"Please be advised that many riders may attempt to come home on earlier trips than normal creating overloaded trips. Some buses may exceed capacity. We do not have the option to add additional trips today."

To handle an expected influx of riders on the 3:14 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. departures from 2nd Avenue and 10th Street, the agency will deploy articulated buses which have more capacity than the regular 38-passenger bus.

Those who take trips after 5 p.m. may experience delays, too, the agency said. Some of the earlier trips may have trouble doubling back to Minneapolis on time.
