And yet one more big concert announcement by a popular Minnesota act today, a band that you can catch Wednesday night on "Conan": Trampled by Turtles has announced a three-night stand April 17-19 at First Avenue and 7th Street Entry to mark the quintet's 10th anniversary. Frontman Dave Simonett hinted on TPT's "The Lowertown Line" that the group had "something special" planned for the occasion, and he apparently meant it.
Calling in to the Current from the road today to announce the shows, Simonett said the plan is to "cram as many of our friends' bands as we can" into the shows, with three acts performing each night in the main room and three in the Entry. Among the names lined up are the Pines, Erik Koskinen, Fat Kid Wednesdays, Real Bulls, Actual Wolf, Fever Dream, the Sans Souci Quartet and Corpse Reviver. Look for different sets each night by TBT, too, and plenty of deep-digging into the catalog. Tickets go sale Friday at noon for $25 via First Ave outlets. The guys also booked a special 10th aniversary hometown show in Duluth Entertainment Convention Center's Symphony Hall on April 4.
In a profile that ran last spring before the release of TBT's sixth album, "Stars and Satellites," the band members humorously recounted their first rehearsal together back in 2003 when they were all living in Duluth: "It was a Sunday, and we were supposed to meet at 7 p.m.," recalled banjo player Dave Carroll. "We called each other and were like, 'Dude, "The Simpsons" are on, so ... 7:30?'"
