Trail runners will once again storm the Zumbro Bottoms Management Area southeast of Lake City, Minn., for a series of races April 8-9.

The 17-mile trail race, which happens April 9, has acquired a following among its mainstays: the 100- and 50-mile ultras.

"That has turned into by far and away the largest field of the three distances down there. People who have never been to the area are completely floored by the terrain," race director John Storkamp said. "It is a really neat area."

The 100-mile starts at 8 a.m. April 8; the 50-miler at midnight. The Zumbro 100 officially started in 2009, Storkamp said via e-mail. At the time, there were 100-mile and 100-kilometer runs. In 2012, the 100K was changed to a 50-miler. The Zumbro 17, which is capped at 400 runners, was added in 2013.
