Trademark Theater has commissioned its first projects from creators who are not part of the company that was founded by actor/director Tyler Michaels King.
"Four Measures" will be written by frequent Ten Thousand Things collaborator Kira Obolensky, with music and lyrics by David Darrow (who collaborated on numerous projects with King for 7th House). Its characters are patients of an actual early 20th-century doctor who attempted to measure the weight of a human's soul.
Harrison David Rivers' "The Most Important I Do Not Tell You at All" is envisioned as a play with music about a visual artist and a composer whose relationship is both nurtured and challenged by their work. (Rivers wrote Theater Latte Da's "To Let Go and Fall," which co-starred King.)
The commissions will include workshops and staged readings in a future Trademark season.
