Felicia remains a hurricane churning west-northwestward through the PacificOcean. At 5 a.m. EDT, or 2:00 a.m. PDT, Felicia had weakened to a Category 1hurricane with maximum-sustained winds of 90 mph. The hurricane was centeredabout 1,030 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii.Very warm water and a lack of wind shear allowed Felicia to intensify into apowerful Category 4 hurricane on Thursday. Felicia has weakened since then andwill continue to do so this weekend into early next week as it moves overcooler water. In addition, an increase in wind shear will further cause Feliciato lose strength prior to reaching Hawaii.
Felicia should weaken to a tropical storm by Sunday, then become a weaktropical storm or depression by the time it passes over Hawaii's Big Island onTuesday.
