First it was toxic trailers supplied by FEMA. Now survivors of recent Gulf Coast hurricanes are getting sick from corrosive fumes that they say are coming from Chinese drywall installed in their rebuilt homes. Those who have suffered say the pollution is powerful enough to cause nosebleeds, corrode metal fixtures and destroy their televisions. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports on its Drywall Information Center site that it has received more than 1,500 complaints about drywall from 27 states, including Wisconsin and South Dakota. U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) is co-sponsoring a bill to set standards for formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports. While some of FEMA's infamous formaldehyde-tainted trailers made their way to Minnesota, neither Whistleblower nor the feds have received any complaints of the vicious gypsum from Minnesotans. If your walls are making you ill, please let me or the CPSC know.
