A broader view

Netflix gets into the talk-show business with "Chelsea," a thrice-weekly series in which Chelsea Handler will tackle pressing social issues through studio conversations and remote segments taped around the world. That's a lot more ambitious than "Chelsea Lately," her E! series that treated Brentwood like an international hot spot. During her recent promotional tour, Handler has slammed her former home, which has probably caused her new bosses to upgrade the fruit basket in her dressing room.

We go together

The animal kingdom must be spending the hibernation season binge watching CBS' "Survivor." That's one theory you might take away from "Nature's Perfect Partners," a new documentary that captures how critters form alliances in order to thrive. The chemistry between the lion and lizard is so palpable, I'm almost certain their agents are pitching a new romantic comedy to Fox.

Paint by numbers

"Raiders of the Lost Art" takes a Cliff Notes approach to art history while still trying to squeeze in details about famous heists. The first offering, which centers on the criminals' eye for Edvard Munch's "The Scream," moves at such a rapid clip you may feel like letting out a few howls of your own. Future "cases" involve missing pieces from Rembrandt, Da Vinci and El Greco.

With her new Netflix talk show, ìChelsea,î the comedian intends to break the mold of the seemingly stale topical comedy format. ìMonologue. First guest. Band. Da, da, da. I just canít do it that way,î Handler said. (Brinson+Banks/The New York Times)
