Take it easy

"Casual," in which a sad-sack divorced mother moves in with her slacker brother, doesn't sound like a groundbreaking premise — and it isn't. But executive producer Jason Reitman ("Juno," "Up in the Air"), who directed the Season 2 premiere, knows smart dialogue and well-rounded characters trump kooky concepts. Star Michaela Watkins, forever looking like she needs a power nap, is his ideal muse. No wonder it became the first streaming series to be nominated by the Golden Globes as TV's best comedy.

The year the music died

Dan Rather's interests in pop music aren't limited to inspiring REM songs. The former CBS anchor looks back on the lives of recently departed stars in "The Big Interview — Special Edition: Legends Lost." Prince is remembered by bassist André Cymone, while producer David Foster talks about what made Natalie Cole unforgettable.

Let it ride

Tourists who get antsy spending more than 14 minutes lounging on the beach will want "Bert the Conqueror" as a tour guide. In his third season, the stand-up comedian buckles up for a wild ride at Six Flags New England and participates in Maine's Great International Lobster Crate Race, which doesn't sound nearly as much fun as surf 'n' turf at Manny's.
