Top seeds set for Class 6A football section playoffs

Eden Prairie, the state's top-ranked team all season and winners of the last four big-school titles, drew a No. 1 seed along with Lakeville North, East Ridge and Maple Grove in the 32-team playoffs that begin Oct. 16.

Defending state champion Eden Prairie along with Lakeville North, East Ridge and Maple Grove drew the top seeds in the 32-team Class 6A section football playoffs.

Eden Prairie, the top seed in Section 6, will play host to Roseville, the eighth seed in Section 4, on Friday at 7 p.m. The Eagles, ranked No. 1 statewide all season, have won four consecutive big-school championships.

Other matchups involving top seeds, which also will host games against No. 8 seeds at 7 p.m. Friday:

Lakeville North (Section 3) vs. Buffalo (Section 6).
East Ridge (Section 4) vs. Coon Rapids (Section 5).
Maple Grove (Section 5) vs. Eastview (Section 3).

Section championship games will be played Oct. 23, with state tournament quarterfinals the following weekend. This year's Prep Bowl will be Nov. 13-14 at TCF Bank Stadium.
