Host St. Cloud State, the top seed, lost 6-4 to Emporia (Kan.) State in 12 innings on Saturday in the losers' bracket of the NCAA Division II Central Regional baseball tournament. The Hornets scored two runs in the top of that inning on Tucker Perkins' two-run homer.
Brandon Arnold was 3-for-4 and scored twice for the Huskies (43-10). Teammate Zak Hoffman hit a solo homer.

The Gophers landed a commitment from Kyrei Fisher, a consensus three-star linebacker from Tulsa, Okla. The 6-2, 230-pound junior also had reported offers from Kansas, Navy and Wyoming. He tweeted his decision.

Tommies reach final 8
Senior Megan DuPuis slapped an RBI single to score a pinch runner with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as No. 12 St. Thomas won 2-1 over host Trine University for a sweep in their best-of-three NCAA Division III Super Regional softball tournament in Angola, Ind.
The Tommies (43-6) advance to the national tournament starting Thursday in Salem, Va.

• Owners Scott and Angie Rake completed a weekend sweep of Minnesota-bred stakes races when Sky and Sea won the $60,000 Lady Slipper Stakes at Canterbury Park, one day after their Bourbon County won the 10,000 Lakes Stakes. Both horses are trained by Bernell Rhone and were ridden by Shakopee native Alex Canchari.
• No. 2 Breck edged three-time boys' tennis state champion and top-rated Blake 4-3 in the Class 1A, Section 2 championship match at St. Paul Academy. The victory avenged a 5-2 setback to the Bears in the regular season. The two schools have combined to win the past seven Class 1A state titles.
