Career stats: When he left the Gophers he was the school's career leader in pass attempts (576), completions (274), passing yards (3,515), TD passes (25) and total offense (4,680). He is still seventh all-time for the Gophers in total offense and 15th in completions.
Team record: 23-21 his four seasons, no bowl games.
NFL player: An undrafted free agent as a safety for Pittsburgh in 1977, played on Steelers' 1978 Super Bowl team.
Return to Minnesota: Vikings defensive coordinator from 1992-95, before becoming head coach at Tampa Bay and Indianapolis.
