TONIGHT'S GAME 1: 6 P.M., ESPN

CONNECTICUT VS. STANFORD [1] Connecticut Huskies (36-1)

How they got here: Won Greensboro region. Def. No. 16 Cornell 89-47; No. 8 Texas 89-55; No. 5 Old Dominion 78-63; No. 2 Rutgers 66-56

Coach: Geno Auriemma (22nd season at Connecticut, 655-121)

Key players: F Maya Moore 6-0/Fr., (17.8 ppg, 7.6 rpg); F Kaili McLaren 6-2/Soph., (5.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg); F Brittany Hunter 6-3/Sr., (5.7 ppg, 3.3 rpg); G Ketia Swainer 5-7/Sr., (6.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg); G Renee Montgomery 5-7/Jr., (14.1 ppg; 2.5 rpg)

Final Four pedigree: After a three-year absence, the Huskies advanced to their ninth Final Four. They will try for the school's sixth overall NCAA championship.

Why they'll win it all: They tout Big East player of the year and John R. Wooden finalist Maya Moore.

Why they won't: If forced to an outside game, that could be a problem because Connecticut has shot 29 percent behind the arc through four tournament games.

[2] STANFORD CARDINAL (34-3)

How it got here: Won Spokane region. Def. No. 15 Cleveland State 85-47; No. 7 UTEP 88-54; No. 6 Pittsburgh 72-53; No. 1 Maryland 98-87

Coach: Tara VanDerveer (22nd season at Stanford, 571-136; 723-187 overall)

Key players: F Kayla Pederson 6-4/Fr., (12.6 ppg, 8.4 rpg); F Jayne Appel 6-4/Soph., (15.0 ppg, 8.9 rpg); G Candice Wiggins 5-11/Sr., (20.2 ppg, 4.6 rpg); G JJ Hones 5-10/Soph., (6.5 ppg, 1.8 rpg); G Rosaly Gold-Onwude 5-10/Soph., (5.1 ppg, 2.5 rpg)

Final Four pedigree: The Cardinal enters its sixth Final Four after an 11-year absence. VanDerveer led the program to national titles in 1990 and 1992.

Why it'll win it all: If Wiggins has another 40-point-plus scoring game, it will be difficult to slow down the Cardinal. Wiggins had 44 against UTEP and 41 against Maryland.

Why it won't: It faces match-up problems with Connecticut, which beat it 66-54 in November.
