Today's trophy tales

Jake McCortney, Centerville • 60-inch gar • Grand Lake o' the Cherokees

Jake McCortney of Centerville was bowfishing recently, with the help of a guide service, on Grand Lake o' the Cherokees in northeast Oklahoma, when he got this 60-inch, 26-pound gar.

Connie Larsen of Savage, fishing recently on Hungry Jack Lake in the BWCA (30 miles north of Grand Marais), caught and released this 34½ inch walleye.

Kate Smith of Minneapolis and her husband took a break from canoeing in the BWCA a few weeks ago to fish North Temperance Lake where Smith, who had never caught a fish, caught this 6-pound bass and seven others.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
