Tips on keeping costs down

Want to increase your gas mileage? The Minnesota Department of Commerce and www.fueleconomy.gov offer these tips:

• Follow the speed limit.

• Drive at a smooth speed. • Avoid sudden acceleration.

• Keep tires properly inflated. Underinflated tires force the engine to work harder.

• Keep your car tuned.

• Check and replace air filters regularly.

• Use the recommended grade of motor oil.

• Plan and combine trips, if possible.
