3:55 p.m. Smoke reported in third-floor laundry room in Building A.

3:59 p.m. Burnsville Fire Department medic crew arrives from Station 2, just across the street.

4 p.m. First fire engine arrives.

4:03 p.m. Second fire engine arrives.

Buildings A and B are evacuated. Building B is not damaged by the fire.

10 p.m. Firefighters begin to get the fire under control.

Tuesday, Dec. 23

2:30 p.m. Residents of Building B are allowed to return to their apartments. Burnsville High students help raise thousands of dollars to help the fire victims, who get immediate assistance from the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and other organizations.

Wednesday, Dec. 24

Checks are disbursed to residents of Building A, with each apartment receiving about $17,500 from an anonymous donor who gave $1 million. In addition, another $100,000 was donated, and tenants also were refunded rental deposits and December rent money.

Tuesday

The city announces that some tenants' personal belongings on the first and second floors may be salvaged. So far, 11 pets have been reunited with owners after animals were lost during the fire.
