Tiger Woods withdrew from the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines after 11 holes in the first round Thursday due to a stiff back. He was 2-over-par on the 12th hole before withdrawing. Since returning from back surgery, Woods has made just one cut in six events, finishing 69th at the British Open last July.

This came only a week after Woods said he felt fine physically in his first event this season at the Phoenix Open. He missed the cut by 12 shots and shot an 82 during the second round, his worst score as a professional. And it came at a tournament he has won seven times.
