Flatbread creations A year ago, Mr. Tidbit described then-new Deli Creations, from Oscar Mayer, as affording the opportunity to buy in kit form at the supermarket "the microwaveable submarine-type sandwiches that, until now, we could find only in exclusive gas stations and company break rooms."
To its five such submarine sandwiches, Oscar Mayer has now added five Deli Creations "flatbread sandwiches," each consisting of a small round of flatbread, meat, cheese and sauce (each separately wrapped), plus a little tray on which to microwave the thing after you "create" it.
Mr. Tidbit hasn't noticed flatbread sandwiches at gas stations, and (happily) he no longer knows what's in vending machines at company break rooms, so he isn't sure whether a flatbread sandwich at home is as thrilling as a sub sandwich at home, but in any case, because he likes bacon, he purchased the Chicken and Bacon Ranch version. He was startled to find that the bacon appears only as little dots in the Ranch sauce. According to the ingredients list, the bacon constitutes less than 2 percent of the sauce. (Not of the sandwich -- of the sauce!)
How unperceptive Mr. Tidbit was not to notice that he'd purchased a Chicken and Bacon Ranch flatbread sandwich, not a Chicken, Bacon and Ranch flatbread sandwich.
How sweet it is! Mr. Tidbit wasn't sure what to expect from the new A&W Float, described on the bottle (in four-packs on the nonrefrigerated shelf) as "a creamy blend of rich A&W and ice cream flavor." (There's also Sunkist Float, "a creamy blend of Sunkist soda and ice cream flavor.")
He didn't expect ice cream, of course, but neither did he expect overwhelming sweetness. According to the label on the 11.5-ounce single-serving bottle, that serving (of either flavor) contains 63 grams of sugar! At 4.2 grams per teaspoon, that's 15 teaspoons, or almost a third of a cup of sugar! Yow! (A 12-ounce can of Coke Classic contains 39 grams of sugar.)
