Tidbits: Another PB choice

Another PB choice Are you a choosy mother who feels that, when choosing Jif peanut butter, the seven kinds of Jif just aren't enough to choose among?

Well, your worries are over. Yes, now there's yet another kind of Jif: Jif with Omega-3 DHA and EPA. Those of us who are choosy enough to use an encyclopedia like to call the latter two kinds of Omega-3 fatty acids "docosahexaenoic acid" and "eicosapentaenoic acid." They are said to have cardiovascular and other health benefits. The body is able to make some DHA and EPA from other oils, but not as much DHA and EPA as is found in oily fish. So that's what's in the newest kind of Jif: an assertively tasteless, odorless blend of anchovy and sardine oil -- plus tilapia gelatin and such.

Mr. Tidbit must say he couldn't taste anything fishy at all in Jif Omega 3; the only difference from regular Jif was that he thought it could use a bit more salt. (In fact, it already has a bit more salt -- 160 milligrams per serving instead of the 150 in regular Jif.)

And less pizza The newest entry from DiGiorno pizza is a package called 200 Calorie Portions. The latter word is in much smaller type on the front of the small box -- it's the same size box as DiGiorno For One pizza.

But a one-serving (8.4-ounce 6-inch-square) thin-crust pepperoni For One pizza, for example, clocks in at 580 calories. Each of the two thin-crust servings inside the box of 200 Calorie Portions pepperoni pizza weighs 3 ounces -- a third of the size (and a third of the calories) of the For One pizza. Another way of looking at it: Each of the 200 Calorie Portions servings is about the size of a smallish one-sixth of a 12-inch thin-crust pizza, and has about the same calorie count.

Of course, the 6-ounce box of 200 Calorie Portions pizza is the same price as the 8.5-ounce box of For One pizza.
