Months after accident, Zednik practices Richard Zednik darted down the ice with his Florida Panthers teammates Thursday, sending the puck skidding across the rink just as he did last season.
It's been about seven months since Zednik was last on the ice with the Panthers, and there is a noticeable difference in the 32-year-old Florida forward -- a pink scar that stretches down the right side of his neck.
Zednik's return to optional team workouts this week in Coral Springs, Fla., marks the first time he has participated in full practices with the Panthers since a gruesome injury in February, when his throat was accidentally slashed by teammate Olli Jokinen's skate and his carotid artery was sliced.
"I feel good. I had a good summer and everything is good," Zednik said. "You come off, and you miss the hockey. So I'm really excited to be back on the ice."

USA Track leader calls performance 'deficient' USA Track and Field CEO Doug Logan analyzed the team's underwhelming performance at the Beijing Olympics -- including dropped batons and a record-low men's gold medal count -- and judged the federation's overall performance to be "seriously deficient."
"This will probably be an uncomfortable exercise," Logan wrote in his blog on the USATF website. "But, this is not a 'knee-jerk' reaction, or a 'witch hunt,' or an attempt to castigate anyone. Indeed, this panel may determine that the factors leading to less-than-optimal performance were beyond anyone's control."
