MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Notre Dame rallies, beats Pitt • NO. 21 NOTRE DAME 82, PITTSBURGH 70: Luke Harangody had 23 points and 12 rebounds, Tory Jackson added 16 points and 13 rebounds as the Fighting Irish (20-5, 10-3 Big East) overcame an 11-point deficit in the second half to beat the visiting Panthers (19-7, 7-6). The Fighting Irish trailed 51-40 when Sam Young hit a 14-foot jumper with just under 14 minutes left. But Notre Dame responded with a 21-10 run, tying the score at 61 on a three-pointer by Kyle McAlarney with 5:49 left. Harangody then scored six points, Ryan Ayers had five and Jackson three as the Irish took control with a 14-3 run.

NO. 6 UCLA 84, OREGON STATE 49: Russell Westbrook scored 17 points and Darren Collison had 14 points and nine assists as the Bruins (23-3, 11-2 Pac-10) defeated the visiting Beavers (6-20, 0-14). Kevin Love had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Bruins.

NO. 10 XAVIER 75, DUQUESNE 48: Derrick Brown and C.J. Anderson had double-doubles as the Musketeers (23-4, 11-1 Atlantic 10) solidified their hold on first place by beating the Dukes (16-9, 6-6).

NO. 17 WASHINGTON ST. 59, ARIZONA ST. 47: Derrick Low scored 15 points as the Cougars (21-5, 9-5 Pac-10) beat the Sun Devils (16-9, 6-7). Aron Baynes and Taylor Rochestie both had 10 points and six rebounds for Washington State.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Buckeyes close in on Big Ten title • NO. 20 OHIO ST. 69, IOWA 56: Ashley Trebilcock and Jantel Lavender each scored 18 points as the Buckeyes (20-6, 11-4 Big Ten) beat the visiting Hawkeyes (18-9, 11-5) and moved closer to their fourth consecutive Big Ten title. Marscilla Packer added 12 points for the Buckeyes. Kristi Smith had 17 points, Wendy Ausdemore 13 and Johanna Solverson 10 for Iowa, which had won nine of its past 10. The loss was the Hawkeyes' 10th in a row to Ohio State.

ILLINOIS 69, PENN STATE 49: Former Bloomington Jefferson star Jenna Smith scored 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds as the Illini (15-11, 7-8 Big Ten) beat the visiting Lady Lions (13-14, 4-11).

MICHIGAN 72, PURDUE 36: Krista Phillips scored 15 points and Janelle Cooper 13 as the Wolverines (15-10, 8-7) crushed the Boilermakers (14-13, 10-6). Lauren Mioton scored 11 points to lead Purdue.

MICHIGAN STATE 65, NORTHWESTERN 40: Allyssa DeHaan scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Spartans (17-11, 9-7 Big Ten) beat the Wildcats (4-23, 0-15).

AREA HIGHLIGHTS

Mankato edges Augustana in OT • MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO 78, AUGUSTANA 74 (OT): Jake Morrow scored 25 points and Atila Santos 22 as the Mavericks defeated the Vikings to clinch the NCC title. ... Travis Priem scored 28 points and Andy Willis scored 27 as Bethany Lutheran defeated Minnesota-Morris 98-87 in the first round of the UMAC tournament in Roseville. The Vikings will play host Northwestern (Roseville) tonight. ... In other area games, Heather Johnson scored 24 points and Joanne Noreen scored 17 as Minnesota State Mankato defeated visiting Augustana 89-79.
