We enjoyed this diagram put together recently by Dan Steinberg over at D.C. Sports Bog detailing the 13 different starting QBs the Redskins have had since 2000 under the watch of owner Daniel Snyder.

It got us thinking if there was a similarly unflattering number that could be pinned on the Vikings. And, well, it turns out there is.

Starting in 2005 -- so at this point, we're talking about six full NFL seasons and seven games of this season -- the Vikings have used TEN different starting quarterbacks. Only once, in 2009 with Brett Favre, did the same QB start all 16 games. Whether owing to injury or ineffectiveness, the Vikings just don't have a recent history of QB stability. But we didn't realize it was that bad until we divided up the past 103 available regular-season games to see how they were split between 10 starting QBs. In order of most games started to least games since (and including) 2005:

Brett Favre: 29

Brad Johnson: 23

Tarvaris Jackson: 20

Gus Frerotte: 11

Daunte Culpepper 7

Donovan McNabb: 6

Kelly Holcomb: 3

Joe Webb: 2

Brooks Bollinger: 1

Christian Ponder: 1

We do not have the time or patience to add up the numbers for the other 31 NFL teams, but we have to imagine the Vikigns trend toward the high end of this list of number of QBs used in that span. It's just another of the many reasons Ponder's debut Sunday was so encouraging. Stopping the quarterback carousel would be a wonderful thing.
