There's a heck of a dramatic story setting itself up in 4A, Section 1 football. Kudos to Northfield News sports editor Jeff Wald for passing this along ...

If Faribault beats visiting Rochester Mayo tonight, Faribault, New Prague and Northfield will be in a dead heat for the top spot in the section playoffs, which begin next week. Northfield and New Prague won their games Tuesday night to move to 6-2; Faribault is 5-2.

If Faribault loses to Mayo, the section title goes to Northfield. That's because the Raiders beat New Prague 23-12 this season. But if Faribault wins tonight, a coin flip -- more likely, a series of coin flips -- between the three teams will be held Thursday morning to determine seeding.

Kind of reminds you of the scene from the movie "Friday Night Lights," when three teams had a flip-off to determine which two would get a playoff berth.
