Three Rivers closes ski areas, more because of extreme cold

January 4, 2014 at 9:20PM

Extreme cold weather has resulted in closures and schedule changes in several Three Rivers parks.

The Hyland Ski and Snowboard Area in Bloomington, and the downhill operation at Elm Creek Winter Recreation Area in Maple Grove will be closed from 3 p.m. Sunday to 3 p.m. Tuesday, park officials said.

Cross-country ski lessons scheduled for Sunday and Monday have also been canceled and will be rescheduled.

Downhill ski and snowboard lessons scheduled for Sunday will take place, but all registrants are being offered alternative dates to reschedule.

Cross-country ski trails and the facilities that support them will remain open, park officials said.

But ski rentals will not be available, and trails will not be groomed Sunday to Tuesday.

Three Rivers park centers will operate under normal hours on Sunday and Monday, although some public programs may be modified if necessary because of the cold.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
