Three Minnesota services set for ex-U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar

Three services in Minnesota will take place this month for longtime U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar, who died last month.

The services will take place at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis June 26, followed by two others in his hometown of Chisholm and Duluth on June 27.

Oberstar, an Iron Range Democrat, was the state's longest-running congressman with 18 terms from 1979 to 2011.

He died in his sleep May 3 at age 79.

The three services:

• Minneapolis: University of Minnesota, Cowles Auditorium, Humphrey School of Public Affairs, 301 19th Av. S., 2:30-4 p.m., June 26.

• Duluth: Harborview Ballroom, Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center, 350 Harbor Drive, 1-3 p.m., June 27.

• Chisholm: St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 113 4th St. SW., 6-8 p.m., June 27.

Memorial organizers also have launched www.jimoberstar.org in honor of the congressman. Admirers are invited to post their memories and photos.
