After customer complaints and repeated inspections, three beauty salons were cited for sanitation violations, according to orders signed recently by the Minnesota Board of Cosmetologist Examiners.

The salons were found to be reusing "porous materials" and improperly sanitizing their pedicure stations. An October 2008 inspection found 29 violations at Do Me Nails in Minneapolis. After follow-up inspections, the salon was also cited for using illegal instruments and fined $5,000. Spring 2009 inspections yielded nine violations at TNT Nails of Brooklyn Park and eight at Enchantment Retreat Day Spa in Eden Prairie. TNT Nails was fined $5,000 and Enchantment Retreat Day Spa $3,000. The salons were ordered to cease unsanitary practices.
