Mondo Guerra
As a contestant on "Project Runway," Mondo Guerra never shied away from making a statement. The season-eight runner-up (and fan favorite) who counts Pee-wee Herman as a style influence will be in town Saturday for a style-off at Macy's Rosedale. Contestants will be selected from the audience to put together head-to-toe looks, which will then be judged by the quip-loving designer for the chance to take home a $100 Macy's gift card. Guerra will also offer his own style tips and thoughts on fall trends. You can get more Mondo when he appears on "Project Runway All-Stars" later this year on Lifetime.
- 2 p.m. Sat 9/17
- Macy's, 900 Rosedale Center, second floor, Roseville

Opera Tasting
Opera can seem like a big, scary pastime for the rich and old. But combine it with copious amounts of wine, and you've got a rollicking good time. Minnesota Opera's annual kickoff event offers samplings from the 2011-12 season alongside a five-course tasting by St. Paul's Solo Vino wine shop, paired with bites from Toast Wine Bar. Costumed singers will gamely intermingle with the crowd and perform cadenzas, cabalettas and arias from Puccini's "Madame Butterfly," Mozart's "Così ran tutte" and other classic operas.
Social Science: Fermentational Informational
The Science Museum of Minnesota's new adult series, Social Science, proves the museum isn't just for kids. This month, the series explores a subject sure to be popular among the 21-plus set: the science of brewing beer and making wine. While sipping on local beer and wine samples, learn how yeasts are fermented into hops and how grapes are grown in Minnesota's climate. Plus: beer and wine trivia from Trivia Mafia, interactive presentations, a photo booth, DJs and local food samplings.
