This weekend in traffic: Last weekend of Hwy. 169 closures, DWI enforcement, and bus route changes

Several road construction projects are nearing completion, but that won't come as any consolation this weekend as the cones will be out and lane restrictions and detours in place throughout the metro.

In downtown Minneapolis, the Twins have games Friday through Sunday against the Chicago White Sox at Target Field. Next door at Target Center, the Lynx host the Tulsa Shock at 7 p.m. Friday.

Extra patrols will be out throughout the metro looking for drunk drivers. The enforcement continues through September, so plan for a sober ride

Route changes take effect on several Minnesota Valley Transit Authority on Saturday. (See details below.)

Here is where you could run into traffic jams and delays this weekend, and a plea from MnDOT to exercise patience, pay attention in work zones and follow the posted speed limits to keep the roads safe:

Hwy. 169

In Shakopee and Bloomington, the highway continues to be a single lane across the Bloomington Ferry Bridge with lane restrictions from Old Shakopee Road to County Road 18. This project is set to be complete by Aug. 23, so just a week left.

Hwy. 10 in Anoka

We have another 10 days or so left of the bridge work and the single lane configuration in both directions between Greenhaven Drive and 7th Avenue through Anoka. Typical westbound backups begin at Round Lake Blvd. and eastbound prior to Greenhaven.

I-35W and I-35 in south metro

For the second weekend in a row, drivers in Burnsville and Lakeville will encounter construction and bridge painting that will disrupt travel.

Suggested alternate routes: Follow northbound I-35E, Cedar Avenue and I-494.

Southbound drivers on I-35 will have to endure a single lane from the I-35/35W/35E Split to County Road 50 from 7 p.m. Friday until 1 p.m. Monday. Ramps to and from County Road 46 on southbound I-35 will also be closed.

I-694 in the north metro

This ongoing pavement rehab project will bring single lane configuration for eastbound drivers from Hwy. 100 in Brooklyn Center to Long Lake Road in New Brighton from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily.

Westbound will be reduced to one lane from Central Avenue to Hwy. 100 from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily. This project will be in place until late October or early November.

This is nothing new for drivers in the east metro, but it is a good reminder for folks coming into town that Hwy. 36 in both directions from White Bear Avenue to Hwy. 61 are closed. Word is that the construction of the new interchange at English Street is on schedule and the highway should reopen by Aug. 31.

Also in the area, Hwy. 36 is reduced to a single lane both directions between Edgerton Street and Hwy 61 through Sept. 28 for bridge construction over Keller Lake.

Hwy. 52 over the Lafayette Bridge

No changes here, just a reminder that vehicle length restrictions remain in effect. No vehicles longer than 35 feet allowed north of Plato Blvd.

Hwy. 95 north of Taylors Falls

Detour: From Taylors Falls go west on County Road 20 to County Road 12, then north to Hwy. 95. Southbound traffic can use County 12 to County 20, then east into the city.

Hwy. 95 in Oak Park Heights

Look for utility work on a section of N. 56th Street, which will affect drivers on eastbound Hwy. 36 who want to access Hwy. 95.

Detour: From N. 56th St, go left on Pickett Avenue to access Hwy. 95. From Hwy. 95, go left on Pickett, then right on 56th Street.

Large trucks may want to use Osgood Avenue and Stagecoach Trail through Bayport since turns could be tough on the detour routes.

Lake Calhoun Parkway will be the site of the TC Lung Walk and Run from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Both East and West Lake Harriet Parkway will be closed from 6 to 11:30 a.m. for the TCO Joint Jaunt. On Sunday, the parkways will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday for the YWCA of Minneapolis Women's Triathlon.

MVTA bus route changes

Starting Saturday, bus riders will find schedule changes and new locations for bus stops on routes 442, 444, 445, 446 and 464. Here is what to expect:

Route 442: Regular routing along Whitney Avenue will resume and the bus stop in from of Ridges Hospital has moved between the crosswalks to alleviate safety concerns. A new bus stop sign will be installed to mark its location.

Route 445: Trip adjustments of up to 4 minutes will be made to eastbound runs to better coordinate connections with the Red Line BRT at the Cedar Grove Transit Station.

Route 446: Look for time adjustments between the Lexington/Wescott stop and the Northview/Elrene stop.
