This weekend in traffic: Freeway closings, Blue Line track work

Snow is in the forecast, and that will stop MnDOT from carrying out a repaving project on I-494 in Bloomington, but work on I-35E in St. Paul is still on.

Metro Tranist also plans to go ahead with Blue Line track work that will make trips between Target Field and the airport a bit longer.

I-494 closure

MnDOT plans to repave the segment of eastbound 494 between I-35W and Cedar Avenue has been delayed until next weekend due to the snow/rain mix called for this weekend.

I-35E Closure

Fans heading to the Xcel Energy Center for the Women of Faith conference, the Minnesota Roller Girls or Disney's Junior Live Tour will likely feel this pain. Both directions of 35E between I-94 and Hwy. 36 will be shut down from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

Crews will be installing a pipe beneath I-35E near Cayuga Street, which is the reason for the closure.

Starting at 7 p.m. Friday, look for lane restrictions at Maryland Avenue as MnDOT crews do some prep work.

Blue Line track work

Metro Transit will use buses to transport Blue Line train riders between Target Field Station and Fort Snelling Station from 6:30 p.m. Friday until 3:30 a.m. Monday. It's all because of construction and line maintenance.

Buses will fill in, but keep in mind trips will take longer than usual so plan accordingly.

I-35E in Mendota Heights

I-35 in Lakeville and Owatonna

Motorist heading south will want to be aware of possible delays on I-35 in both directions from County Road 50 and County Road 2 in Lakeville and New Market. Traffic will be single file through there.
