It sounds as if the weekend might be a bit soggy, but that's not likely to put a damper on festivities at Minneapolis' Art-a-Whirl, Stillwater's Rivertown Art Fair or the Judson Street Fest.
But it could present problems for the Minnesota Twins (www.twinsbaseball.com), who host the Boston Red Sox Friday through Sunday at Target Field. And for runners participating in races at Lake Calhoun, parades in Golden Valley and, of course, for those working on the roads.
Judson Street Fest
The musical celebration put on by Judson Memorial Baptist Church (www.judsonchurch.org) takes place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at 41st Street and Harriet Avenue S. With bounce houses, arts, and food, the fest will draw a crowd. Look for street closures, tight parking and lots of pedestrians in the area.
Art-a-Whirl
Spread over nearly 20 square miles of northeast Minneapolis, Art-A-Whirl is considered the largest open-studio tour in the country. This event features more than 500 artists in over 70 locations and continues to grow each year. Look for pedestrians, bicyclists and lots of vehicles in the area bounded roughly by Broadway St. NE., Marshall Street NE., 22nd Avenue NE. and Central Avenue NE. Metro Transit (www.metrotransit.org) will provide free rides to the event.
Rivertown Art Fair
Vehicle access to Stillwater's Rivertown Art Fair (www.stillwaterrivertownartfestival.com) will be restricted, and downtown is likely to be extra crowded on streets around Lowell Park and heading into and out of Stillwater.
