Radical Recess

Friday: Add a little culture to your lunchtime routine with a dose of contemporary movement. After debuting "Radical Recess" last month at Mayo Clinic Square, Hennepin Theatre Trust and curators April Sellers and Laurie Van Wieren take their downtown dance series to the City Center Atrium for a midday show. This month's edition features April Sellers Dance Collective along with choreographer Taja Will, most recently featured in Red Eye Theater's "Isolated Acts" series, as well as Dustin Maxwell. As a dancer, Maxwell stood out in a number of pieces last year, including Christopher Schlichting's "Stripe Tease" at the Walker, Morgan Thorson's "Still Life" at the Weisman and a solo piece choreographed by Pramila Vasudevan at the Southern, which turned out to be the perfect vehicle for his angular body and sinuous movement. Now, Maxwell shows off his own choreography with a piece that incorporates Butoh elements. (12:30 p.m. Fri., City Center Atrium, 40 S. 7th St., Mpls., Free. madeheremn.org)

Future Interstates

Tuesday: "Future Interstates," the monthly dance series at Cowles Center, features a rotating mix of dance experimentation curated by Hijack and BodyCartography Project. This month's showcase presents a mix of local and out-of-town performers, with Hijack offering a look at their latest work. They're joined by the Twin Cities-based SuperGroup, who will perform a work called "subtext." Philadelphia-based choreographer Sean Thomas Boyt will show a collaborative piece created with Stav Comay, Sarah Finley, Eva Skillings and Lauren Vanchina. Shannon Stewart (New Orleans/Seattle), Brendan P. Behan (Urbana, Ill./San Francisco) and Momar Ndiaye (Urbana/Senegal) also will share their new work. (8 p.m. Tue., Cowles Center, 528 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls.; $5 suggested donation, 612-206-3636, thecowlescenter.org)

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
