This week in preps: a day of hoops border battles

Seven of Minnesota's best boys' teams will play their Badger State counterparts at Prior Lake High School on Saturday.

Justin Hegna and his staff at www.breakdownsportsusa.com have done a fantastic job of putting together must-see basketball tournaments this winter. The latest, Saturday's Minnesota/Wisconsin Border Battle, is another gem. Seven of Minnesota's best boys' teams will play their Badger State counterparts at Prior Lake High School. Here is the slate of games:

Saturday • At Prior Lake

• Eau Claire Regis vs. Mahtomedi, 11 a.m.

• Manitowoc Roncalli vs. Eden Prairie, 12:45 p.m.

• De Pere vs. Hopkins, 2:15 p.m.

• Appleton West vs. DeLaSalle, 3:45 p.m.

• Hudson vs. Osseo, 5:30 p.m.

• Rice Lake vs. Prior Lake, 7 p.m.

• Madison Memorial vs. Apple Valley, 8:30 p.m.

A look at some of the other notable prep action coming up this week:

BOYS' BASKETBALL

Tuesday: Park Center (Class 4A, No. 1) at Armstrong, 7 p.m. Guard Quinton Hooker leads the Pirates against the upset-minded Falcons. Armstrong hung tough in the first meeting before falling 78-68.

Friday: Minnetonka (4A, No. 6) at Edina, 7 p.m.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

Tuesday: Bloomington Kennedy (4A, No. 1) at Lakeville North (4A, No. 10), 7 p.m. The Panthers lost to the Eagles by 24 in the first meeting. A little payback?

Thursday: Park Center at Centennial, 7 p.m

Friday: Wayzata at Hopkins (4A, No. 2), 7 p.m.; Red Wing (3A, No. 4) at Chaska (3A, No. 5), 7:30 p.m.; Simley (3A, No. 10) at Richfield (3A, No. 3), 7 p.m.

GIRLS' HOCKEY

Wednesday: Breck (1A, No. 6) at Minnetonka (2A, No. 3). The 2012 state champs face off. 7 p.m.

Thursday: Eden Prairie (2A, No. 4) vs. Benilde-St. Margaret's (2A, No. 1), at St. Louis Park, 7:30 p.m.

Saturday: Mounds View (2A, No. 2) at Roseville (2A, No. 12), 7:30 p.m.; Minnetonka (2A, No. 3) at Blake (1A, No. 2), 5 p.m.

BOYS' HOCKEY

Thursday: Edina (2A, No. 6) at Eden Prairie, 7 p.m.

Saturday: Edina (2A, No. 6) at Minnetonka (2A, No. 5), 7 p.m. Minnetonka, led by forward Max Coatta, the leading scorer in school history, was outshot 27-16 in the first meeting but won 4-3 on Jan. 17. Also: Hermantown (1A, No. 6) vs. Totino-Grace (1A, No. 3) at Parade, 3 p.m.

WRESTLING

Saturday: Prior Lake at St. Michael-Albertville, 7:30 p.m. The 3A, No. 3 Lakers try to knock off the 3A, No. 1 Knights in a whopper of a late-season dual, 7:30 p.m.

NORDIC SKI RACING

Thursday: Lake Conference meet at Theodore Wirth Park. Despite having only five teams, the Lake is the deepest conference, top to bottom, in the state. Skate races begin at 1:30 p.m., classic at 4 p.m.
