Back story: Opened in 2014 by entrepreneur Tia Blade, Top 2 Bottom offers personal shopping and styling services, as well as a selection of ready-to-wear clothes, shoes and accessories. "I have a lot of clients who don't know what they want, and I am ready to help them put their look together and source it all for them," says Blade. The boutique also rents out suits, tuxedos and dresses for proms, weddings and other special events.

Fighting adversity: In addition to the problems posed by COVID-19, Blade also had to contend with a devastating fire set by vandals in April; neighboring businesses also were affected. The shop officially reopened in October with new furnishings and a complete renovation, though it served customers for several months prior. "The vandalism struck me at the worst possible time, as I had just brought in a lot of new inventory for the summer season," says Blade. "What's more, I was still rebuilding during prom season, which is a big time for my business. With all that and COVID, it's been a very difficult two years." Blade remains optimistic and ambitious: Her goal is to open a second location in St. Paul, and to eventually expand to five stores.

What you'll find: Personal styling/shopping services, business and formal wear (tuxedos, suits, dresses), vests and sweaters.

What you won't find: Casual attire, sleepwear, tailoring services.

Coming events: Patrons can look forward to the shop's upcoming customer appreciation Christmas party, with special sales to celebrate the community that has supported Blade and her business.
