The Minneapolis Aquatennial Ambassador Organization has a new Commodore for 2008. She is Mary Niemeyer, 47, of Woodbury.

Niemeyer is the senior vice president and marketing manager for CBS Radio Minneapolis, the company which includes WCCO Radio (830 AM), WLTE (102.9 FM), and JACK (104.1 FM). She came to CBS Minneapolis in 1998 after starting her career at KROC-FM in Rochester, Minn.

Locally, Niemeyer serves on the Board of Directors for the Twin Cities Media Network of American Women in Radio and Television, the Pavek Museum of Broadcasting in St. Louis Park, the Minnesota Military Family Foundation and the Minneapolis Downtown Council.

As commodore, Niemeyer will represent the Aquatennial at numerous festivals and events throughout Minnesota and across the country, with her first appearance in that role at the St. Paul Winter Carnival later this month.

The Aquatennial Ambassador Organization also elected Robert Alfton as president of the Board of Directors. Alfton, 68, of Minneapolis, has been on the board for four years and is past president of the International Municipal Lawyers Association.

The 69th Minneapolis Aquatennial will run July 18 to 27.
