Things You Didn't Know about Tornadoes

On average, May has the greatest frequency of tornadoes while June finishesa close second. The most tornadoes for one month since records have been keptis 543 in May 2003. The worst tornado outbreak ever occurred on April 3-4,1974, when 148 twisters struck from the Gulf states to Michigan. The deadliesttornado was the tri-state storm on March 18, 1925. It killed 695 people andinjured 2,027.The top five states with the greatest incidence of tornadoes (based on anaverage per year) are Texas with 134, Oklahoma with 58, Kansas with 56, Floridawith 51 and Nebraska with 43. The five states with the fewest tornadoes areAlaska, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Vermont and Oregon.
