Robbers made off with about $300,000 in Rolex watches from a St. Paul jewelry store Sunday afternoon after smashing display cases with hammers while the store was still open, police said.
Four males took part in the robbery, which occurred just before 5 p.m. Sunday at R.F. Moeller Jeweler at 2065 Ford Parkway. Sgt. Paul Paulos, a St. Paul Police spokesman, said two of the men held open doors to the business while two others wielded the hammers, smashing the glass cases and grabbing about 30 watches before fleeing.
On Tuesday, police released surveillance video of the robbery. In the video, one of the men who smashed a case walks into the store, followed closely by another man. As they approach the case, they pull up their sweatshirts and remove hammers from the waist of their pants.
Each man swings a hammer, smashes the glass and grabs watches and flees.
One man wore a New Jersey Nets winter hat. The other wore a hooded camouflage sweatshirt under a dark colored shirt. Their faces are not covered.
Several employees can be seen in the video as the two men approach the counter. Another man, who appears to be a customer, walks through the store after the robbery, apparently oblivious to what just happened.
Nobody was hurt, Paulos said.
"That's about all we have right now," Paulos said. He urged anyone with information about the robbery to call St. Paul police at 651-266-5650.
