The thief who stole a car Thursday night at a gas station on St. Paul's North End got more than he bargained for.

Six-month-old Shawn Preston Scaramuzzo was buckled into his car seat in the back seat. Dad Jeremy Scaramuzzo, 19, had left the engine running and doors unlocked when he popped into the Clark station at Rice Street and Arlington Avenue. E.

A suspect jumped in the car about 9:15 p.m. and took off. The car was seen eastbound on Arlington and was found less than a mile away at Arlington and Westminster Street. The baby was unharmed and has been returned to his parents.

The suspect had fled the scene by the time officers arrived. Police said Friday that there is a surveillance camera at the gas station, but they did not offer a description of the suspect.
