Jailhouse rock

Don't be surprised if certain friends of yours are missing in action this weekend. They've most likely sentenced themselves to gobbling up all new episodes of "Orange Is the New Black," the runaway streaming hit that shows diversity can truly exist — as long as it takes place behind bars. Blair Brown is front and center in Season 4 as a Martha Stewart-inspired new inmate.

Puttin' on the Fitz

Amazon is once again allowing the audience to participate in pilot season and will decide whether to move forward on eight potential series based on the response they get from those who watch these sample episodes. Most of the offerings are aimed at kids, but "The Last Tycoon," based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's unfinished novel, is strictly for grown-ups, with Matt Bomer as a movie executive hoping to get a few more one-liners out of the way before he succumbs to a damaged heart. The fast-paced dialogue and lavish set scenes will transport classic-film fans to a sunny side of paradise.

Going back to sleep

James Franco, whose tastes have become increasingly unpredictable, is the primary force behind a remake of "Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?" a remake of the 1996 "classic," but with a twist. This time the danger is a vampire. Tori Spelling and Ivan Sergei return from the original film.

Masters of disaster

Minneapolis has yet to become a hub for TV production, but locally based Committee Films is doing its part. As the team behind the "20/20: In an Instant," which returns with six new episodes, it makes certain that most of the show, which re-creates tales of survival, are shot here. OK, it's no "Breaking Bad," but we'll take what we can get.
