The secret's out: Pawlenty's "testing the waters" for a 2012 prez run

Gov. Tim Pawlenty visited the New Hampshire waters Thursday

March 26, 2010 at 2:34PM

In New Hampshire, Gov. Tim Pawlenty apparently demurs no more about his possible 2012 ambitions in private meetings.

Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas relayed his take away from an earlier meeting with Pawlenty about presidential politics.

"Pawlenty makes no secrets about it, he's testing the presidential waters," Gatsas said. "During our conversation it was clear that he was thinking about this because he loves his country and the he believes in a blueprint that our founding fathers laid out. And that's very refreshing."

To reporters, the governor has repeatedly said that his political travel -- Thursday was his second trip to New Hampshire in the past four months and he's got a second trip planned to early voting Iowa for next month -- is more about the 2010 elections than any 2012 ambitions. It seems he sent a different message to Gatsas.
