Cruising through Facebook this evening, I learned of the death of my pup's sire (male parent). Jaegerhof's Sir Henry Higgins from Top Gun Kennels in Iowa passed away last Saturday at the age of 10 and a half years old. Ten and half years; that's a short ride. It's got me thinking about the worst attribute of bird dogs - they don't live very long.
I dread the day my beloved Trammell leaves the earth for heaven. I admit that I am guilty of anthropomorphizing her . . . ahhhhh, I treat her as if she were human. To my wife and me, Trammell is and will always be our "first born." I recognize that I'm setting myself up for a gigantic fall someday down the road, but that's what happens when you fall in love isn't it?
Rest in peace Higgins (7/7/99 to 1/29/11). Thank you for fathering the bird dog that I'll measure every other pup against the rest of my life.
