pick of the week: It won't take much to hunt down an Easter egg hunt this week. You just have to pick the adjective that describes what you're looking for. There's the Big Egg Hunt (9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sibley Recreation Center in Minneapolis), the Mystery Egg Hunt (1 p.m. Sunday at Eastman Nature Center) and, for those who prefer to do their egg-hunting in the evening, the Dusk Egg Hunt (6 p.m. Thursday at the Merriam Park Recreation Center in St. Paul). That's just a small sampling of what's available. To find when and where the Easter bunny will be in your neighborhood, hop on your favorite search engine and enter "Easter egg hunt" and the name of the city.
Blowin' in the wind: Thursday is the anniversary of the strongest wind ever recorded in the United States. (We're talking about real wind, not the kind generated during an election campaign.) On the afternoon of April 12, 1934, the Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire recorded winds of 231 miles per hour. To put that in perspective, the highest classification of a hurricane, a Category 5, kicks in when the winds top 156 mph. Hopefully, the Mount Washington scientists were holding onto their hats.
Day by day: Tuesday is national Eight Track Tape day. You snicker now, but this was a really big deal back in the '70s.
