BIOGRAPHY

Born: Sept. 7, 1964, Omaha, Neb.

High School: Creighton Preparatory School, graduated 1983.

College: University of St. Thomas, graduated 1987. Georgetown University Law Center, graduated 1992.

Family: Married Mary Kate McMahon in 1991. They met on a blind date at Tiffany's in St. Paul. They have six children: Conor, 22; Patrick, 19; Molly, 18; Sean, 16; Brendan, 14 and Danny, 11.

Career: Co-CEO, Lazard Middle Market, Minneapolis (leave of absence); attorney at Cravath Swaine & Moore LLP, New York City; marketing representative for IBM, Rochester, Minn. Early jobs: Paperboy, busboy and dishwasher at a country club.

Favorite Minnesota winter activity: Cross-country skiing.

Favorite college memory: Rooming with Vince Flynn in college, who I remained lifelong friends with. (Flynn, who went on to become a bestselling author, died in 2013.)

Football Family

McFadden played defensive end for the University of St. Thomas, a tradition that runs in the family. He has coached all five of his sons in youth football, and his eldest sons Conor and Patrick are former and current Stanford University football players.

McFadden is longtime friends with Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dan Sullivan of Alaska. The two met at Georgetown and have remained in contact throughout their dual campaigns.

Cristo Rey

McFadden, who said he was shaped by his education at a Jesuit high school, serves on the board of directors for Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, a private Roman Catholic high school in Minneapolis that serves low-income inner-city students. He is currently on a leave of absence.
